Variegated Hostas Plants | Types – How to Grow and Care?
Hostas have more than 70 species and hundreds of hybrids produced by plant breeders. Among those, one species has two-toned foliage, thus called variegated hosta.
It is a Herbaceous Perennial that belongs to Asparagaceae. Their foliage is patterned, showy, and colourful, having a darker or lighter border with a green part in the center of the leaves. They have aesthetic values like blue orchids.
How to grow and transplant Hostas Flower?
Hostas are flowering herbs thus they grow with seed. After they have attained a sufficient height, you can transplant them easily. Dig a 30 cm deep and 12-15 cm wide hole in well-drained soil. Place the plant there and fill the hole with soil. Press the soil to make it firm and then irrigate it well.
Variegated hostas are much more tender in case of care and attention they need to show their aesthetic values. Following care must be there to get the maximum out of them;
- If you want more variation in colour and appearance, keep them in more light.
- They need shade to avoid excessive transpiration, and keep then in partial shade sometimes.
- They need soil rich in organic matter and well-drained.
- The pH of the soil should be 5.5-7.0 (slightly acidic)
